WHY WE RIDE: BECAUSE I’M GETTING OLDER, AND BIKING IS MY FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH.
November 9, 2009

Because I’m getting older, and biking is my fountain of youth. I have ridden my bikes since I was a little boy on my sky blue Schwinn with a banana seat, and have never felt more at peace. Now I ride my Trek and Cannondale to find that little boy’s memories and dreams. Sure, now I don’t put baseball cards in the spokes, but I still love the sound my bikes make on the path of life!
—Gerardo Regalado; Harlingen, TX

I can only think about riding because my bicycle is 7000 miles away and I’m stuck here in the desert. The days of a gentle crosswind blowing through my hair has been replaced with a different Kevlar helmet that is missing 23 air vents and 43 pounds of equipment and body armor. I’ll ride again when I get back home, to keep my inner peace and to make sure all is right with the world. But for now I’ve got a job to do making sure we’ve all got the freedom to ride. So have a good ride for me, and I’ll see you on the road next year.

I ride because...how can you not!
—David Stamegna; Park City, Utah

I ride to get away from my family, but I always come back with a smile. I ride to forget I am a 40 something wife, mother of two, stay at home soccer mom.  When I am on my bike I am an athlete, a cyclist, anonymous, flying up hill and down, the envy of all…in my mind. I ride so I can wear my bikini on the beach in Mexico... with confidence.
I ride for the future.
—Sue Bailey; Kirkland, Washington

In order to ride with my grandson, David, soon!
—Michel Dallaire; Gatineau, Québec, Canada

I ride because it makes me feel good, gets my blood pumping, keeps me in shape and helps me to see the world at just the right pace—18 mph.
—Rick Bush; Helena, Montana
