Cunego And Simoni To Join Forces Damiano Cunego has launched the first attack in tactical war for the 2009 Giro. In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Cunego said that he had already spoken with Gilberto Simoni about an alliance against Lance Armstrong and Ivan Basso.

"Ivan and Lance will work together to block because of their friendship and their style of racing. Gibo and I are climbers, we must find an appropriate response and nobody knows the roads in Italy better than Simoni,” said Cunego.
