OUCH To Take Over HealthNet, Landis Confirmed
OUCH Sports Medical Center, based in Temecula, California, will take
over the sponsorship of the HealthNet/Maxxis team run my Momentum
Sports Group. The team will be named OUCH presented by Maxxis. It was
also confirmed that Floyd Landis would join the team following the end
of his suspension in January of 2009.
Co-founder and executive director of OUCH Sports Medical Center, Dr.
Brent W. Kay, MD, is the driving force behind the sponsorship and the
addition of Landis to the team. Dr. Kay is Landis' long-time physician,
oversaw his hip resurfacing surgery, and testified on behalf of Landis
at his USADA arbitration hearing.
OUCH is not new to the sport of cycling. In 2006 and 2007 they
sponsored American track rider Sarah Hammer as she prepared for the
Beijing Olympics.

Britain Already At Work For 2012
Britain's squad of track cycling stars might have dominated the boards
of the Olympic velodrome in China, but for the man who helped
orchestrate those remarkable achievements it's already back to work.
Dave Brailsford, the Performance Director of British track cycling,
returned from Beijing a happy man after seeing his riders claim seven
of the 10 gold medals at the Laoshan velodrome in August. But he won't
let his squad of medal winners rest on their laurels. Ahead of
Manchester hosting the first leg of the five-leg World Cup series this
weekend, Brailsford says it's time to forget the emotions of victory
parades in the wake of Beijing and get back to basics.
"For some riders it's all about Beijing and an opportunity to say
thanks but if you count World Cups and World Championships, we're 24
races away from London in 2012," Brailsford said. "After this weekend,
23 to go, not that many so we need to get our act together. As far as
I'm concerned, Beijing is behind us and good riddance. I haven't
enjoyed it, personally anyway, since we've been home. And for me, it's
not about floats, the Queen and things like that. It's about racing."
He added: "Today for the first time since we got back, I got up and
thought “Ha! I'm happier today than I have been since I got back from
Beijing. It's good to be racing, back in the day job."
Victoria Pendleton, who won the women's sprint gold in Beijing, cruised
through qualifying on Friday. Other medalists in this weekends race
program included double gold winner Bradley Wiggins, in the scratch
race; Ed Clancy, in the individual pursuit and Wendy Houvenaghel, in
the individual pursuit.

Date Set For Doping Doctor Appeal Hearing
Frenchman Bernard Sainz has been told he will have to wait until April
2009 before an appeal against a custodial sentence for providing banned
substances to cyclists will be heard in court. On Friday the court of
appeal, which is to hear his plea for a lighter sentence set his
hearing date for April 9, 2009.
Sainz, known ominously in the cycling peloton as 'Doctor Mabuse', is
currently serving an 18-month prison sentence after being found guilty
of administering doping products and working illegally as a doctor.

Cycle-Collstrop Comes To An End
Cycle-Collstrop, the team that rose from the ashes of the Unibet
Protour team ceases to exist. Manager Jacques Hanegraaf saw no future
for a more viable team. "For the comprehensive contracts of Unibet
respect, I'm at a lower level with a continental team," said Hanegraaf.
"But we had to work at a level that is not viable or was solid. There
is no certainty about participation in major competitions.
Cycle-Collstrop had 17 riders under contract. 9 of them have already found a new team. |
