Day two of the largest bike show on earth (at least that is how it seems) was jam-packed with people, parts and activities. We narrowed in on Time's new RXR Ulteam, the cultural and technological significance of the Schwinn Paramount returning to the fold, found the booth with the most buzz, started the handlebar tape war (in our minds) discovered reason 1,799 why we want to move to Italy and spotted a very goofy British award-winning product.
2009 TIME RXR
We had the chance this morning to see Time's new RXR Ulteam with Doug Knox, who is now living full-time in France (he used to live in
Santa Barbara). Doug raced in France years ago and had always dreampt
of returning to live in France full time and is now realizing that
dream.

The RXR Ulteam: This is Time's new top of the line race bike, debuted at this year's Tour de France. It is only available now as frameset (Time calls this a Module-frame, fork, seatpost and stem) and was created by Time to come out with a race bike with a "More modern design and to get away from the more traditional, classic look," said Doug. The RXR Ulteam also offers more rigidity for better sprinting capability over previous models. We put in our order for one. Maybe two. They will be offered in either red or white.

THE PARAMOUNT RETURNS TWICE The story began with Richard Schwin in 1938 and Schwinn has brought back the model that is truly woven into the cycling lore and history or the United States. How many people have a Paramount story or owned one in their past. Kudos to Schwinn for bringing it back and for doing so using new technology, high-end components and a sleek design of the Paramount Series 9 (there's also a Series 8). Rumor has it that Schwinn will also be offering a Paramount 70th Anniversary Edition, which can be custom built to your specifications using Reynolds 953 stainless steel and complete with a 70th Anniversary paint scheme as well. Think Nervex lugs, silver brazing and winning races. This is great news for anyone who likes bikes.

The Schwinn Paramount Series 9: Made with High Modulus Black Label carbon fiber, the Paramount Series 9 also comes equipped with an integrated seatmast, SRAM Red, Mavic R-SYS wheels and an FSA SL-K Compact bar. The square box downtube shaves weight and increases lateral stiffness on the Series 9. Welcome back, Schwinn Paramount.

SPECIALIZED WINS THE BUZZING BOOTH AWARD
 |
 |
The 2009 road line alone is massive.
|
Every time we got even close the Specialized booth, people were packed inside or waiting to get inside. After a quick run through, we could see why. Their line is extensive, exciting and covers all shapes, sizes and levels of cyclists.

Maybe there really is something to the trickle down theory? Utilizing the Tarmac design platform, one of Specialized's greatest assets is their ability to utilize high-end technology, design and graphics in their mid to lower range bikes, like the Tarmac Comp.
