Spaniard Miguel Astarloza won the 16th stage of Tour de France here on Tuesday which began in Martigny, Switzerland, veered into Italy and finished in France. His compatriot Alberto Contador retained the overall leader's yellow jersey and holds a 1minute 37-second lead over seven-time winner and Astana teammate Lance Armstrong. Astarloza was able to hold onto an early breakaway move and attacked in the final two kilometers from the finish to solo to the win in Bourg-Saint-Maurice.
