For 2009 Oakley has taken to the task of redesigning their popular Racing Jackets. The new Racing Jackets are currently under going testing by Thor Hushovd and George Hincapie at the Tour de France. They are designed around Oakley’s 3-point fit system to optimize comfort and assure optical clarity that Oakley has built their reputation on.
Besides the visual re-styling, the new Racing Jackets feature lenses that are suspended in the frames using a unique retention system. This retention system isolates the lenses from compressive stresses of a conventional frame. By eliminating these stresses Oakley is able to further reduce distortion within the optic field.
The new retention system allows for replaceable lenses, a feature that is new to the Racing Jacket line. The pivoting nosepiece and “lower jaw” system doubles as a quick-release system for fast and easy lens switch outs. When the “lower jaw” is in the open position, the pivoting nosepiece and lenses can be easily removed and replaced. Once the nosepiece is rotated into the locked position, the lens removal feature is de-activated. Using the nosepiece as a quick-release, dirt and fingerprints on the lenses are kept to a minimum.
The lenses feature Oakley’s industry leading High Definition Optics, are high velocity and high mass impact resistance, and offer 100-percent UVA, UVB, and UVC protection. The Racing Jackets will be available in a variety of lens options including polarized lenses.
