RIDING WITH TEAM SAXO BANK
January 13, 2010

The team meets before their five-hour ride

We got invited to ride with Team Saxo Bank yesterday in Fuerteventura, Spain. The sun was out and the riders met at 10:00am for a quick team meeting to discuss the route, the speed and the goals for the day.  My goal was to not get dropped in the hour that we got to ride with them.  I held on for the hour (but probably wouldn't have lasted much longer) when Bjarne Riis (yes, he is fit and was riding with the team) waved us back and they rode off into the distance. We then had another two hours of climbing to get back home. The team stayed out for five hours trying to get in some long days in the sun.

There was a moment during the ride, where I had to pinch myself. I was hanging on to the back of the group and I looked up front briefly and saw that Andy Schleck was setting the pace. I won't ever forget that.

After their ride, we got to sit down with both Andy and Franck and talk about 2010. Stay tuned. Here are some images from the day....

Notice the RBA kit in Fuerteventura, Spain.

Franck Schleck chats before the ride.

Fuerteventura has some stunning, moonscape scenes and steep climbs.

The non-pro riders got to stop for coffee after three hours of riding.
