Tyler Farrar’s second-place finish at the GP Ouest France has helped him leap into the top-10 in the UCI’s world rankings. Previously, the Garmin-Transitions rider was ranked 18th following his title defense at Germany’s Vattenfalls Classic. But with his second-place finish behind HTC-Columbia’s Matthew Goss, Farrar becomes the only rider to move up in the top-20 in the last week. He is now ranked eighth.
For his win at the GP Ouest France, Goss has leapt from 98th to 37th, making him the week’s biggest mover.
Despite winning the Tour of Utah, Levi Leipheimer dropped to 93rd due to the absence of UCI points for the race.
In the nations rankings, the top-20 spots remain unchanged with Spain leading Italy with 1644 points to 856. The fifth-ranked United States have closed some of the gap to fourth-ranked Australia, with 708 and 773 points, respectively.
In the teams rankings Garmin-Transitions was the big mover thanks to big rides by Farrar, Kiwi Jack Bobridge and Irishman Dan Martin. The team rose from 10th to seventh. HTC-Columbia got a boost from Goss and climbed one spot, into fifth. Astana is still the world’s top-ranked team and with 976 points is the only team to have earned more than 800 points this season.

The Vuelta is a big priority for the Spanish team and with Alejandro Valverde currently serving a suspension for doping, Arroyo got the nod to lead the team.
Luis Leon Sanchez will also be a protected rider for the team, but he says he will be focused on stage wins rather than trying to compete for the general classification.
