At this year’s Tour de France, the Pearl Izumi Speed Shop debuted a new jersey called the P.R.O. (Performance and Race Optimized) Speed Jersey that is designed using on the bike anatomic fit for aerodynamic performance. The P.R.O. Speed Jersey has been in development since last year’s Tour de France, and features drag cheating P.R.O. Transfer Aero fabric. The P.R.O. Speed Jersey was inspired by the custom speed suits that the Pearl Izumi Speed Shop developed for Garmin-Slipstream team members such as Dave Zabriskie, the U.S. National Time Trial champion, and Bradley Wiggins, the UK World Pursuit Champion. When the Pearl Izumi Speed Shop arrived at the final design and pattern, it produced each Speed Jersey to the exact specifications of each member of the Garmin-Slipstream Team, and then hand couriered the jerseys to Monaco just one day before the start of the Tour de France. In addition to the P.R.O. Speed Jersey, the Garmin-Slipstream team members may select from three other Pearl Izumi P.R.O. model jerseys. There is the standard P.R.O. Jersey, the workhorse of the line. The P.R.O. Climbers Jersey featuring Direct-Vent Fabric for optimal ventilation and low weight and the P.R.O. Aero Jersey, which features a second skin fit and anatomic construction.
For the general public Pearl Izumi is pre-launching the 2010 limited edition Black Star Design Aero Jersey and Short, which is the exact Aero Jersey and Bib Short available to the Garmin-Slipstream team. The Black Star Kits feature the same materials, construction, fit and aero fabrics used by the team with the addition of Pearl Izumi’s all new P.R.O. Seamless 4D chamois.
