PRODUCT REVIEWS: GIRO TECH: CAMPAGNOLO LAUNCHES 11-SPEED ATHENA GROUP
May 13, 2009

Last year Campagnolo introduced their new 11-speed Super Record, Record and Chorus groupsets. The 11-speed technology was developed by racing professionals and tested in world’s most grueling races. When introducing the new the groupsets Campagnolo did not simply add an extra gear but made a clean sweep and designed all the components from scratch, improving each individual part to create the new groupsets.

For 2010 Campagnolo has expanded its line of 11-speed groupsets by introducing the Athena 11, the first 11-speed groupset constructed using mainly aluminium instead of the carbon fiber. Athena 11-speed is an extension of the 11-speed project with the same design and technical innovations as those found in the other three 11-speed groupsets. Campagnolo’s objective with the Athena groupset is to bring the performance features of 11-speed to the largest number of people possible.

The Athena 11speed groupset is part of the 2010 range and will be available with and aluminium crankset or with an optional carbon fiber version. The groupset weighs an impressive 2,352 grams with the aluminium crankset and 2.239 grams for the carbon. Price for the 11-speed Athena groupset has not yet been release.
