NEW PRODUCTS: TREK UNVEILS NEW PROJECT ONE CUSTOM BUILD PROGRAM
October 20, 2008

Trek's New & Improved Project One Program Is Live

If anyone was expecting to see a revolutionary new road bike coming out of Trek for 2009, they would've been pretty disappointed. Last year was the year that Trek introduced the all-new road bike (albeit with the same old Madone name) and while Trek seems committed to faster model intro's than that which preceded the last roll-out (a four year span between new & old models), for 2009 their bigger effort is the launch of their revamped and greatly expanded Project One custom build program.

Whereas in the past the P1 program was mostly a paint personalization program, it is now a much more aggressive program that not only lets the consumer pick and choose frame colors, but parts too, and Trek makes the case they mean all the parts (though still within a given component menu). If you have been dreaming about getting a green 6.9 Madone with red cable housing and a lower-end Shimano Ultegra SL cranks, no worries. An Orange TTX with orange color accents on your Bontrager wheels, white cable housing and Sram Red components, no problem.

Trek also included a menu of Women's Specific Design  paint schemes (above) for women riders as well. Best of all, Trek guarantees that from the time you order the bike through your local Trek dealer, it will be built and shipped to you with seven days. It's a tall order to be sure and while many dealers were really excited about the new program, there was also some skepticism that it could be pulled off.

Trek hosted a special launch of their new Project One program with a few days of riding editor spec'd bikes in Europe. Lacking any truly garish combination of colors on the RBA bike, it's safe to assume that Brad got to make the order! A sweet Madone 6.9 with a red/black/white color combo with Bontrager wheels is what he came up with and as we speak he's probably up in Santa Barbara right now showing it off on Main Street.

While there are plenty cool bikes on the market for you to consider, there is no other program that offers this level of customer influence on a building a production bike. To get the process going, Trek has launched a new Project One web site where you can see your bike built in front of your eyes while tracking the price. This is a unique offering that will hopefully bring a new level of individual personality to the group ride. Click Here to check it out.
