NEW PRODUCTS: SRAM 1090-R2C AERO SHIFTERS
October 24, 2008

SRAM’s new 1090-R2C (Return to Center) bar-end shift levers allow the rider to keep their hands stationary while shifting. This limits arm and upper body movements and improves aerodynamics. The new 1090-R2C shifters have the same lever motion as conventional bar end shifters except the shift lever then automatically returns to its starting center point.

The lever is designed to fit between the thumb and first finger. According to initial wind tunnel tests the SRAM 1090-R2C aero shifters can save an average of 10-15-grams of drag at 30mph when compared to other bar end shifters. This will potentially save between 10 to 36 seconds over an Ironman® bike leg.

The shift lever will be carbon with an aluminum body, titanium fasteners, and have a composite insert mount. Projected weight is 195 grams, while the price has not yet to be determined. The 1090-R2C aero shifters will be available early 2009.
