Cervelo and Look have recently released voluntary recalls for products that could be dangerous to cyclists. On August 20, Cervelo recalled about 5,800 Wolf SL Carbon Fiber Bicycle Forks. According to Cervelo, the fork's steerer can break during normal use, causing the rider to lose control, fall and suffer from serious injuries. Cervelo says 12 of these breaks have been reported, with one consumer suffering from a broken wrist.
Wolf SL Carbon Fiber Bicycle Forks could have been included on the following Cervelo bicycle models: R3, R3 SL, Soloist Carbon, Soloist Carbon SL, and some P3 Carbon framesets and complete bicycles. Wolf SL Carbon Fiber Bicycle Forks have a clear coating over black painted carbon fiber, with the words "Wolf Superlite" just below the fork crown on each fork leg, and the letters "SL" on each leg above the fork blade dropouts. There is a True Temper CRT logo on the inside of both fork legs. Cyclists should stop using bicycles equipped with this product immediately and bring the bike to an authorized Cervelo dealer for a replacement.
Look recalled approximately 40,000 pairs of KeO pedals on August 5, as the steel axle inside the KeO pedal can break, causing cyclists to fall. Fourteen such incidents have been reported, including seven with injuries. Pedal models in the product recall include KeO Classic, KeO Sprint, KeO HM and KeO Carbon, with a date code between January 2004 and December 2005. The date code for the KeO Classic, Sprint and Carbon pedals is on a dial stamped onto the pedal. The date code for the KeO HM is on the bottom of the pedal, with the letters A through L corresponding to the month, and the numbers 4 and 5 indicating 2004 or 2005. Cyclists using these pedals should stop using them immediately return them to a Look dealer or contact Look Cycle USA to arrange for shipping and repair.
