TECH NEWS: ZIPP 202 WHEELSET
July 17, 2009

Used by Carlos Sastre to win on Alpe d’Huez and subsequently the 2008 Tour de France. The Zipp 202s are made for the mountains. The Zipp 202’s use Zipp’s patented VCLC and Carbon Bridge technologies to increase durability and enhance ride quality. Zipp claims that the 202s are the first climbing wheels developed in the wind tunnel. While the 202s only weigh 1060-grams they are designed to roll more efficiently on the flats and descents than most 46-50-millimeter deep section wheels. The 202’s aero profile and carbon rim construction also add to the wheels stiffness for better cornering and quick acceleration. The 202s now feature Zipp's 88 front and 188 rear hubs, named after their weight in grams, and use external spoke nipples for easier service.
