Ryan Trebon of the Kona team stormed to victory at the 2008 Crank Brothers U.S. Gran Prix of Cyclocross opener, at Champion’s Park in Louisville, Kentucky.
Trebon showed his strength by powering away early from the star-studded field. Jesse Anthony of Jamis bridged up to Trebon on lap four but found the pace too high and was eventually dropped with two laps to go. Anthony who is a multiple-time junior and U23 champion managed to hold on for second place-–his best ever finish at a USGP.
Behind Trebon and Anthony, Jeremy Powers, Tim Johnson both of Cannondale-cyclocrossworld.com, Todd Wells of GT and Troy Wells of Clif Bar formed a disorganized chase group. On the final lap the battle for third place commenced. Half way through the final lap Powers and Wells collided, causing Johnson and Todd Wells to crash. This crash left Powers and Troy Wells to sprint for third, with Powers coming out ahead.
In the women’s race Katerina Nash of the Luna Team took a commanding win over Rachel Lloyd of the ProMan Team and fellow Luna rider Georgia Gould.
