75th World Championships Varese, Italy, September 23-28, 2008 September 23, 2008 Under 23 Men's Time Trial / 33.5km
Already European U23 TT champion, 20 year old Adriano Malori from Traversetolo, Italy took the first gold medal for Italy at the 75th World Championships in Varese, Italy. "To win this world Championship is Italy is indescribable. I can't put it into words," said Malori post race. He powered his 55X11 home for the U23TT in 41'35.98", well ahead of Patrick Gretsch (Germany), with Aussie Cameron Meyer third.

Malori was fastest at all the time checks and dedicated the win to his Italian teammate Marco Coledan, who crashed Monday during training and willnot comepete in the World Championships "(Marco) is my friend."

Patrick Gretsch (Germany) was runner-up despite a late-race crash that may have cost him :30", while American Peter Stetina was a strong sixth place,1'24" behind Malori. while American Tejay Van Garderen was 40th, 3'21" behind. Malori, who's idol is Lance Armstrong and rides with a small ninja figurine for good luck, is a genuine talent. His Italian team coach Rosario Fina said "Malori is a young rider with a big motor and also a great head...we'll hear from him again."
