RACE REPORTS: MCEWEN TAKES FIFTH PARIS-BRUSSELS
September 13, 2008

After a disappointing first half the season, Robbie McEwen continued his strong post tour run by winning the Paris-Brussels classic cycling race for the fifth time. The Silence-Lotto rider, who has won the event four times consecutively, sprinted across the line ahead of Belgium's Gert Steegmans and Luca Paolini of Italy. "I'm thrilled, we were all very tired, as you could see in the sprint. To win five times is great!" McEwen said after the race, which was dominated by the Quick Step team.

The race was held in cold and rainy conditions, with the Quick Step taking charge and breaking up the race with team riders Maarten Wynants and Sébastien Rosseler working to set up Steegmans. Steegmans made his move for victory on the final climb, but could not drop McEwen, who easily took the sprint.
