The third stage of the 2009 Tour of Utah returned to the Miller Motor Sports park for a second year. The individual time trial, held over on 14.5-kilometer course offered little rest for the riders still recovering from the climb to Mount Nebo on stage 2
It was Tom Zirbel (Bissell) who took the day's victory with a time of 17 minutes. As the 54th of 140 starters, Zirbel had wait a long time to see if his time would hold. Zirbel's time held as rider after rider failed to match his performance and the BMC team asserted themselves in the overall classification placing three riders in the top ten. Ian McKisseck (BMC) placed second at 14-seconds back, followed by prologue winner Brent Bookwalter (BMC) at 16-seconds off of the pace.
The top three overall experienced only a small change with last year's overall winner Jeff Louder (BMC) conceding 2-seconds to Darren Lill (Team Type 1) and race leader Fransisco Mancebo (Rock Racing). Tomorrow's stage is likely to be the decisive stage of the race. The 160-kilometer stage finishes atop a brutal climb to SnowBird ski resort.
