The Tour of Ireland will likely be Armstrong's last race with Astana

British rider Russell Downing (CandiTV) won the first stage of the Tour of Ireland, and in doing so took the race leader's jersey. Downing finished one second clear of Saxo Bank teammates Alexandr Kolobnev and Matti Breschel. Lance Armstrong (Astana), finished in the main group in what is likely to be his last race for the Astana team.

The Tour of Ireland continues tomorrow with a 196km stage from Clonmel to Killarney. The course features two Category 2 climbs and one Category 1. The race finishes in Cork on Sunday.
