On a cold, rainy March midweek day in the northeast Italian city of
Pordenone, Lampre's Mirco Lorenzetto took his third win of the season
ahead of speedy Slovenian Bole, Belletti and Ale-Jet Petacchi. An early
break by Oleksandr Kvachuk (ISD) and Maxim Gourov (CarmioOro-AStyle)
got away early-on and gained up to 10’, but the sprinters teams pulled
them back in the finale where Lorenzetto took the win from a 30 strong
group including all the race favorites. Lampre diesse Fabrizio Bontempi
explained. "On the final two times up the Castello di Caneva climb, the
break still had a too big of a lead, so we upped the pace with
Bruseghin and Grendene. On the final descent into Pordenone, the gruppo
split in two and we still had Bandiera, Bindi and Da Dalto up front
with Lorenzetto, who rode a great sprint to win."
